MP Joins Celebrations at Official Opening of Gascoyne Community Centre
Date added: 07 Sep 2016
The Gascoyne Community Centre, part of a £4.2 million transformation project developed by Sanctuary Group in Hackney, has been officially opened.
MP Meg Hillier joined other key local representatives to celebrate the grand opening with residents and enjoy an afternoon of fun, food and celebrations, including musical performances by local artists and a photographic arts project which portrays the history of the neighbourhood.
The community centre, which will be managed by community development organisation Hackney Marsh Partnership, features a large hall, meeting room and reception area and is set to become a popular community hub for a variety of activities, including a youth group, karate club and educational sessions.
The much needed, neighbouring housing development comprises 16 mixed tenure apartments plus three 3-bed houses for rent, and the project, built by Sanctuary’s appointed contractor Bennett Construction Ltd, received funding from the Greater London Authority and London Borough of Hackney.
This project once again clearly demonstrates Sanctuary’s commitment to creating a positive impact in the communities in which it operates and this development has created jobs and training as well as homes and a central hub for local people.
Speaking at the official launch MP Meg Hillier said: “Sanctuary’s new community centre and homes have breathed new life into the neighbourhood and I was thrilled to see young and older residents come together and enjoy sharing their experiences of life in Hackney.”
Bennett (Construction) Ltd were delighted to be the design & build contractor on the Gascoyne
project with Sanctuary Housing.
